Pollution

Pollution is one of the main causes of global warming. Human activities bring almost disadvantages to nature.
Industry is responsible for CO2 emissions, which cause global warming and consequently climate change. Some species are able to survive in different conditions but on the other hand others can’t.
Some people don’t believe that climate change is related with human activities, but that’s not true. Scientists believe we are the cause of climate change and so do I… To me the only way to solve this problem is reduce pollution.
So in order to combat this problem we need adapt some measures, like:
  • Reduce emissions of gases;
  • Reduce waste from householders;
  • Save water, for example, close the tap when we don’t need;
  • Recycle.

Endagered species

Human been has been compromised a lot of species because sometimes we destroy habitats in order to satisfy our needs.
Over exploration of species is one of the main causes of extinction but isn’t the only one. Destroying habitats is also a very important cause.
I’m against hunting, because is not fair kill an animal just to sell their skin and their teed. Hunting shouldn’t be allowed!
If we don’t stop hunting animals in risk of extinction, in the future a lot of species will be compromised, our including.
We need respect all the rules and respect animals because to survive we need them, so it’s necessary ensure species preservation.

Domestic Waste

Domestic waste is waste from householders. This waste can’t be recycled or reuse. This garbage contains glass, metal, plastic and paper, could also contain medicines and toxic products.
We can recycle this garbage but we can reduce and reuse. That’s the importance of the three R’s.
Reduce
The first R is very important to reduce the amount of waste, for example don’t buy products that we don’t need or that we don’t going to use very often.
Reuse
Instead of throw away things that we think we don’t need anymore, we should try use them again. I always try write on both sides of paper sheet.
Recycle
I think it’s our obligation separate all the products that can be recycled. In school we learn how to recycle, so we don’t have excuse.
Let’s go save the planet!
It’s so simple…

Rainforest destruction

One of the causes of rainforest destruction is deforestation. Humanity in order to satisfy our necessities have been cutting down trees, in consequence hundreds of forests have been becoming extinct.
According to WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) forests cover more than 33.000.000 Km2 of Earth surface. Between 80’s and 90’s over 150000 km2 of forest have been destroyed.
We use wood to supplies our energy necessity and the land to cultivate food or build factories.
If we keep doing this we will destroy ecosystems, put in danger some species and aggravate global warming because trees recycle the air and give us oxygen.
If we act together and stop cutting down trees probably the future will be much better.

What I do to make a difference?

I give a lot of importance to environmental threats. I think all human been should help to solve these problems that we are fighting like: greenhouse effect, global warming and pollution.
Personally, I do some little things that I think in the future will make some difference. At home I taught my parents the importance of recycling and now everybody do it. Even in my office’s aunt recycling is something really important.
I hate see rubbish on the floor so I don’t let anyone throw away things in my presence.
To save energy I turn of the lights when I leave the room and I also don’t let the TV on stand-by.
Every time I take a bath or wash my teed I close the tap in order to save water.
I write on both sides of paper sheets because trees are very important to recycle the air.
These little things that I do are easy and everybody can do it. So do it!

Hunger in Africa

Africa is the second most-populous continent, around 922 million people live in Africa.
We all heard news about this continent in TV, everybody in developed countries know what’s happening, but almost no one does something to reverse the situation.
Every year, hundreds of kids become slaves, die before their fifth birthday from water-related diseases such as cholera and diarrhea. Can you imagine?
For us, who never felt truly hunger it’s almost impossible imagine a kid dying of malnutrition. Well, the truth is that it’s happening RIGHT NOW…

Why African people face food shortage?
I suppose because wars, political corruption, diseases like HIV and an enormous population growth.

What can we do to change the situation?
There are a lot of organizations that help these people, but they are not doing enough to end hunger.
We have to work together and help all the countries who need us.

Cloning?

Today, I will interview two people who have different opinions about cloning, but first I’ll explain what cloning is. Cloning is the name given to the process that creates identical organisms, called clones.
ME: Hi! James, what do you think of cloning?
JAMES: Well, I’m against genetic manipulation in general but cloning to me is the most horrible thing that has been created until now. God creates us! We are not allowed to create other organisms by our own hands. Each, person is unique, even animals are unique. What are we to change that?
If we stop, just for a while, to think we would be able to see all the consequences of cloning a human been. Imagine a person, physically identical to another person but younger, who was born with defects and is treated like a second-class citizen. Can you see a future in someone like this? I can’t.
Society is not ready to face the cloning challenge. That’s my opinion!
ME: Thank you James, your opinion is very important to us. Now, it’s your turn Sarah.
SARAH: I’m for cloning. I can't even agree with the arguments that James presented. God doesn’t have anything to do with cloning.
I recognize that cloning and genetic manipulation in general are difficult issues to talk and discuss. However, my point is that cloning brings us more benefits than disadvantages. If cloning was allowed sterile couples would be able to have kids and organs transplants would be easier because clones have the same DNA. See… cloning is the future
ME: Sarah, thank you for sharing your opinion with us.
Well, now that you have heard different points of view, tell us your own one.

Why people adopt different lifestyles? Veganism

I don’t know exactly why they choose different lifestyles but I think that they do it for feel good with themselves. Maybe they want to be different for the other people, they need find us personality, for example, the vegans choose these alternative lifestyles because they just don’t like eat meat or they respect the animals.
So I decided to write about veganism because this alternative lifestyle is very common in our days.
A vegan is someone who, for diverse reasons, chooses to avoid using or consuming animal products. While vegetarians adopt not to use meat, vegans also avoid dairy and eggs, as well as fur and cosmetics or chemical products tested on animals.
After I researched, I discovered that veganism is a natural extension of vegetarianism and an integral component of cruelty-free lifestyle. The practice of this alternative lifestyle is benefit because it helps to protect the animal’s lives, the environment and is a healthy lifestyle.
There are at least three reasons for vegans practice:
- People do not eat meat because they are against the animal’s violence, the animal’s kill. They think that animals should have their basic freedoms;
- Animal agriculture has a negative influence on the earth. It is an inefficient way of producing food, since feed for farm animals requires land, water, fertilizer, and other resources that could otherwise have been used directly for producing human food.
- Veganism is healthier. The consumption of animal fats and proteins has been linked to heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and a number of other debilitating conditions. Cows' milk contains ideal amounts of fat and protein for young calves, but far too much for humans. And eggs are higher in cholesterol than any other food, making them a leading contributor to cardiovascular disease.
The truth is that veganism reduces the risk of diseases.

Why endangered species need protection?

The earth is comprised of many different life forms, including plants, animals, humans, and other organisms. These various life forms are highly interdependent and have formed important systems that continually reshape the planet's landscapes, oceans, and atmosphere.
But with the growth of population this magnificent scenery has been destroyed. Same examples the causes of this destruction are: the constructions of the industries that need a lot of space what include de destruction of the habitats; pollution; over exploration of species; deforestation; the human activities and others.
Deal with The International Wildlife Federation (NWF) plant and animal species are disappearing at least 1,000 times faster than any other time in the last 65 million years. This problem is a worry situation. So we can conclude that species need our help.
While the most of humanity don’t aware or don’t care about the endangered species, animals and plants will continue to be threatened and this number will increase.
So we can conclude that species need our help. But why we need protect them?
Plants and animals hold medical, agricultural, ecological, commercial value so they need protected and saved for the future generations can experience their presence and value.
In order to combat this situation we need to assume an important role. One of the most important ways to help threatened plants and animals survive is to protect their habits permanently in national parks, nature reserves or wilderness areas.

Cloning

I researched and I discovered what cloning is. Cloning is the creation of an organism that is an exact genetic copy of another. This means that every single bit of DNA is the same between the two.
There are many arguments for and against cloning, especially against cloning humans. In my opinion this is very confused because, for example, the twins, the natural twins, are often confused with each other and if you have a clone will be complicated.
Some arguments for cloning are: prevention of diseases (replacing cells damaged), creation of humans with identical genetic makeup to act as organ donors for each others, reju

venation, I think that are more important arguments for cloning.
There are good percentage of people against cloning because there loss of genetic variation, technology is not well developed, clones may be treated as second class citizens and unknown psychosocial damage with impact on the family and society.
I’m against cloning because cloning violates our rights. We are unique and if you have a clone they are stealing your identity. On the other hand cloning can help people or save lives.

Cloning may not be efficient because the clones born with defects and they have a short life expectancy.

The Melting of Glaciers

Everybody knows about climate change. This phenomenon is real and has been grown too fast. The warming of the climate system is now evident because the ocean temperatures are increasing, the glaciers are melting and consequently the sea levels are rising.
The human activities have been contributed by this increase. These activities, like deforestation, the burning of fossil fuels principally, cause emissions of carbon dioxide, the principal gas responsible for climate change. The concentration of this gas is increasing since the industrial revolution.
With that the Earth is getting hotter and this problem worries me a lot because many impacts are expected to occur in natural system in the future. With the melting of ice and snow are expected to increase flood risks in some areas while causing droughts in others. And then the species have to difficult to adapt of the warming temperature and they will go extinction.
The people have to make a reflection about your habits and if they are acting wrong they need to change.

Water Crisis?

Usually we don’t close the tap when we are taking a shower because we think water is a renewable resource and it will never run out. However the truth is that we are living a water crisis and we have to start saving water.
Over 70 percent of the Earth’s surface is water covered but most of it is saltwater, located in oceans and seas, and only 0,3 percent of Earth’s water is usable by humans. There is much more water stored underground than there is on the surface.

This water crisis has been caused by climate change and pollution.
If we continue to pollute water like we have been doing in the future water will be too polluted and unsafe to drink. Emissions of gases that cause acid rain are also a problem because water has become to acid and already destroyed monuments and trees.
Climate change has led to floods and droughts in different places. A lot of hurricanes and tsunamis are water related.
There is already many people living in water-stressed areas so we have to start acting right now.

Can You Change The World?

When somebody ask me if I think that I can change the world my answer is YES. You can do something like recycling, save water, save energy and other little things that probably save the planet. These small actions that you can do are not difficult to practice and can make the difference.
In my opinion is very useful that children learn more about to preserve the environment. They should have basic knowledge about the CO2 levels in atmosphere, how to reduce the levels of pollution, how to protect the number of species that are in danger and other important things.
Outside school you can create an environmental organization that way offer fun and educational programs.
Never forget that you carelessness with environment can be a threat for your health and for future generations.
Instead of paying attention to fashion, magazines, computers and TV shows you should be worry about your planet because he need you.

The Future!

“Teenagers and children are the future” that’s what my grandparents always say and I think that’s true. We are the future and we can make a change.
When I look around I see a lot of things that I would like to change. Personally I really care about the environment. Everyday TV shows us a bunch of dreadful news related with our planet’s environment. By these days hurricanes, floods and temperature rise are very common.
The problem is that in general we don’t worry about our planet and the truth is that we can’t carry on like this because if we do, we will end-up searching for another planet to live or destroy.
To reverse this we can start to educate children about environmental threats, like greenhouse effect, global warming, acid rains and rainforest destruction. If they realized the importance of these problems, I suppose that they will make the necessary difference and transform this planet in a better place.
We have to alternatives: act immediately or carry on as we have been doing and end-up «murdering» the earth. That’s why my grandparents are correct: we truly are the future! But what kind are we creating?

"An Inconvenient Truth"

Fonte: Youtube

"An Inconvenient Truth" is a documentary movie about Global Warming and all the issues related with that. The movie is presented by Al Gore who use to be the Vice President of United States of America.

As we know, global warming is the increase in temperature of the Earth's near-surface. This increase is related with greenhouse effect which results of trap energy from the sun for certain gases.
However in the trailer Al Gore says that "we are causing global warming" which is true, because since the Industrial Revolution the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has radically changed.
This is a compelling movie because we can learn more about the consequences of this problem, for example climate change, which causes powerfull storms as the hurricane Katrina and floods.

Al Gore also tell us that together we can fight this problem and solve this crisis.
The future is in our hands and only we can change it. That's the message!
